I Come Bringing Cronuts!

Hello all!

It’s tough to be a follower on this blog I know, but I do have a good reason for my disappearing act! I have been extremely busy this summer and unfortunately, I was highly neglectful towards my blog but I plan on updating with lots of goodies this weekend to make up for it! The summer is winding down, autumn is coming (with the ever-so-exciting promise of Pumpkin Spice lattes) and I am hunkering down at this computer writing anything and everything that comes to mind… or is exciting!

So with that said, let me fill you in one of the most exciting things I managed to do this summer. I GOT A CRONUT! A REAL, DELICIOUS, FLAKY, BUTTERY, CRONUT! And my goodness was it worth it!

Behold… the cronut in all its glory:

August’s flavor was coconut.

So, for anyone reading this who is not from the NY Metro area or living under a rock (sorry!), cronuts are an original creation by Dominique Ansel of the Dominique Ansel Bakery in NYC. They are a half-croissant, half-donut creation and are absolutely fabulous! I had debated getting one for ages but one thing stopped me… the wait. The bakery opens at 8am but people line up at starting at, no joke, 5am, to get one! So yeah…. But my friend called me telling me August’s flavor was coconut (the flavor changes every month) and for whatever reason, I decided why not?! We’d make it a fun adventure! Despite my parents pleading with me not to go (“it’s so early!” “Dunkin’ Donuts is just as good!” “it’s so far!” “I don’t understand…”) I was now determined to do it!

And the best part? They only make 350 a day, you are only allowed two each, and if they’re gone, they’re gone. And don’t think of cutting the line, even if you are Emma Roberts! Think of it is a culinary prize! Driving over the GWB and into the West Village at 5am made me feel like I was on a quest, on a quest for cronut glory. Would we get in? Would they be delicious? Are they worth $5? Would we see some of those outrageous stories in action (People scalp these things!)? Yes, yes, yes! Not only did I get two, BUT I got another amazing pastry called the DKA, which my parents enjoyed even better than the cronut! And yes, I did see a few funny instances.

I am not kidding when I say this is a huge attraction for people. We got a great spot in line. There were about 40 people ahead of us and almost 100 behind us!  My friend and I must have gotten asked a thousand times why were on line, why we couldn’t settle for any old regular donut, the whole thing. But it WAS worth it, and there’s a DD on every corner, but only one cronut (Although, that could soon be changing…). If you want to do something fun and different and you don’t mind waking up very, very early, do it! I promise it will be fun.

Next month the flavor is Fig & Mascarpone. You can bet I’ll be there!

p.s. check out the “rules” for getting a cronut. Bon Appetit!

How Adorable?!

I am a sweets addict. I don’t usually crave savory foods, I almost always crave sweets. And not only do I love sweets but I also, as you probably know by now as well, love my dogs! I work in Manhattan on the Upper East Side and every now and then I’ll stop by Sprinkles cupcakes to pick up some treats for my family. Today I decided to finally try their doggie cupcake and it was a huge success! If you ever get the opportunity to try a Sprinkles cupcake I highly recommend it… they are out of this world! The frosting is just the right combination of sweet and smooth but it isn’t overpowering which I like.  Anyways, Gracie and Faith loved this cupcake, which they split. It is sugar free with yogurt frosting and such an adorable way to treat your puppy!

Doggie Cupcake

P.S. If you enjoy Sprinkles, try their Smores cupcake before it leaves stores! It’s only there until September 3rd ;). My sister can tell you it is DELICIOUS. And with that, I’m going to take a big old bite out of my carrot cake cupcake. Bon Appetit!

I Will Eat Here This Fall!

So, as you might know by now, I have a real affinity for good food. In particular, I have a soft spot for Italian food. I’m half Italian and my mom’s sauce is out of this world! I appreciate nothing more in life than a really delicious batch of sauce. With that said, I love discovering good Italian restaurants and have already begun my search. Lucky for me, Eater NY has just posted their list of the 15 Most Anticipated Restaurants for this fall and one in particular has really caught my attention – L’Apicio. I actually heard the buzz about it a lot this past week and I’m pretty excited!

It’s in the coolest of cool neighborhoods in the city, the East Village and with my birthday coming in the fall, I’m determined to get there. If I do, you know I’ll post about it!

And since we’re on the subject of Italian food, here’s an oblig picture of some of my favorite pizza from one of NY’s best pizzerias, Grimaldi’s. Mangia!

You Mean it Tastes Like Chocolate?

I love food. In my dream world, I would be able to eat all day and not gain a single pound haha. And I’m talking goooood food – pizza, cake, ice cream, mexican, sushi… you name it!  In fact, here is a  restaurant I am dying to get to one of these days :P.

Alas, eating junk food 24/7 is just not possible (well it is, but… yeah), so instead I’ve made it my mission to find foods that taste decadent and delicious but are still healthy. It’s not easy and I definitely still give in to my cravings, but it’s been fun discovering a wide range of tasty foods that won’t leave you feeling guilty! And with that, let me present to you one of my all time favorite snacks that has changed my life. Ladies and gentlemen, I give you, the VITAMUFFIN!

Without sounding too much like an advertisement for Vitalicious, I can just say that these muffin tops (along with the muffins, brownies and cakes) taste like real chocolate. You know how diet food can really taste like diet food? Well these don’t and it is extraordinary. And they are only 100 calories! How amazing is that? I eat one every single day for breakfast and they are filling as well so it’s great. They have them at most to all supermarkets but some of the better flavors (peanut butter chocolate, chocolate mint, dark chocolate pomegranate) are only available online. Do yourself a favor and try one! You won’t regret it, trust me.

P.S. They have pizza now too?! I will sooo try one and let you know what I think!
