Lady Gaga has continued to promote APPLAUSE and I have to tell you, I am loving this whole era! From her stellar iTunes Festival performance (I vote ManiCure for the next single please!) to her latest performance on Good Morning America, it’s fun, it’s campy and it’s pop! I checked out what some of the blogs had to say about her Wizard of Oz themed performance on GMA this morning, particularly, OhNoTheyDidnt, and of course, the reviews were mixed. In my opinion, it was genius! Criticize her all you want but you cannot deny that she gives her all in these performances and does what any good popstar is supposed to do… put on a show. Check out her performance and tell me what you think!
It’s Labor Day weekend and summer is coming to a close. Can you believe it?! I’m still coming to terms with it and while I’m absolutely excited for fall, I don’t love the season that follows it. As I write this, I’m reading Facebook posts excitedly discussing the return of Pumpkin Spice latte’s and the desire to feel the cool air of autumn. I myself am even getting excited for fall shopping (how adorable is this coat?!). With that said, I thought I’d give you a top 5 of just some of my favorite pop culture moments of this past summer, starting with the lady herself, Miss Lady Gaga!
5. Lady Gaga triumphantly returns with APPLAUSE! As you know, I am a HUGE Gaga fan and was so excited when I first heard this song. I can’t wait to hear ARTPOP (which you know I’ll be reviewing on here!)
4. The World’s End. Edgar Wright, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost (you too Martin Freeman!) did it again with their third and final film in the Cornetto Trilogy (the other two films being the “zomedy”, Shaun of the Dead, and the hilarious play on buddy cop films, Hot Fuzz). This film is about a group of guys led by Simon Pegg’s Gary King, on their quest to finish a pub crawl they had previously attempted many years ago through their hometown of Newton Haven. Of course, trouble ensues, trouble of the sci-fi kind! With little nods to their previous films in the trilogy and a wonderful performance by Martin Freeman, it was a highlight of the summer!
3. This moment on True Blood. Sure, the entire 6th season was all over the place and the show in its current state is completely different from the show I once loved, but this one image made it all so worth it. Am I right people?
2. MDNA Tour! I didn’t get to see Queen Madonna in all her live MDNA glory, BUT, I did get to watch the concert special several times on Epix! As usual, Her Madgesty delivered! Here was one of my favorites – Open Your Heart.
1. Orange is the New Black. If you know me, you know that I am very selective about the tv shows that I choose to watch but I have to say, this one is truly UH-MAZING!! It tells the story of waspy New Yorker Piper Chapman and her struggle to survive in a low-security women’s prison and still find a balance with her life on the outside. Only available to watch on Netflix, if you haven’t seen this yet, watch it now! Haha.
There were so many incredible moments this summer spent with family and friends but these are just some of my favorite things from the season. And in case you’re wondering, the VMA’s (aka the Justin Timberlake and Miley “I can’t twerk” Cyrus show) were a total mess and hence, weren’t included on the list! 😛
I am a huge classical music fan. I love all kinds of music really but there is something about classical music that I find so soothing and relaxing. Especially on days like today when I’m snowed in. One of my favorite instruments is the harp and I just recently downloaded some absolutely gorgeous music!! The album I found is called Medieval and Renaissance Music For Harp. Below is my favorite song (this is not the version on the album, this one includes vocals):
Isn’t that stunning? It’s so ethereal, takes me to another place. What’s some of your favorite relaxation music?
I have such an appreciation for Mumford & Sons. Something about their songs is so raw and heartbreakingly beautiful. They always manage to perfectly capture so many different emotions/situations and translate them into music. I absolutely love BABEL but their first cd is truly one of my favorites.
This particular song just always moves me so much, and I guess now more than ever it really does. So powerful!
Hey! I know it’s been a ridiculously long time since I’ve updated, and I hate how long it’s been. I’ve been so busy with work and life that I just literally have not had the time to sit at my computer and write but here I am! So if you know me, you know I am not really a huge movie or television person. The thing that interests me the most is music, and since this year is coming to a close, I thought I’d join the the crowd and do my own top list of my favorite songs and music videos of the year. I’ll just post my top favorite video but here is my list of songs, in no order cause I’m literally going through my iTunes ha…..
Alex Clare – Too Close I just really liked everything about this song, to me it was a really different sound for a top 40 song, and even though it’s been done to DEATH, the dubstep worked.
212 – Azealia Banks just love everything about it, the beat, the rap, the attitude. It’s stupid and fun.
We’ll Be Coming Back – Calvin Harris I hate to sound like one of those people buuuuut I have loved him for years now and he just continues to put out flawless dance tracks. This one just had everything that makes a good one and the vocals by Example were on point. Could listen to it any time, any place and it instantly boosts my mood.
Don’t Wake Me Up – Chris Brown I’m sorry. I really am. THIS HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH CHRIS BROWN. This song was meant and written for Madonna and she made such a huge mistake by passing on it. I just love the song and could listen to it over and over.
Some Nights – Fun. Love it, it makes me think of being in the city in Chelsea, which ALWAYS makes me smile.
Blood for Poppies – Garbage Shirley Manson is a goddess and her voice just brings back so many childhood memories for me. This was such a good comeback song for them and reminded me of their first (and best) album. I don’t think it got enough credit, it’s a really tight song to me.
Radioactive – Imagine Dragons I absolutely love Imagine Dragons. This song is ethereal and takes me to another place when I hear it. I feel like it was made to be on a dramatic tv show haha
Tomorrow is Gonna Be Better – Joshua Radin I admit, Zach Braff turned me on to this guy and he just writes such gorgeous, gorgeous music. I love the singer/songwriter genre and if you do too, I suggest you check him out. This song makes me cry, just beautiful.
Mercy AND Clique – Kanye YESSSS. I LIVE for these songs. I don’t know what else to say about them. Cruel Summer was for the most part, a weak album, but these songs give me life haha. And Kanye’s verses are ridiculous, over the top and have some of the funniest soundbites EVER. The beats are pretty hot though can’t lie.
Timebomb – Kylie She is a legend in her own right and makes flawless pop songs. This was SO GOOD, better than any Madonna song that came out this year and I am so mad at the U.S. for not giving it more of a chance. It’s so much fun, love!
National Anthem – Lana Del Rey this song makes me think of the time that I lived in the Hamptons. It just captures that energy and makes me miss it so much. I can’t describe what I feel when I listen to this song, I think it makes me feel free.
Summertime Sadness – Lana Del Rey another one by her I know, but it just is gorgeous. love love love.
Crystallize – Lindsey Sterling this a really cool mashup of classical/dubstep. I actually just found it but I really, really like it.
Ho Hey – The Lumineers I downloaded this when it was a free download on iTunes and am so happy I did! It such a beautiful, cute song. It always make me happy and makes me think of the summer. I always feel so compelled to sing along with it when I hear it. love love love.
Stubborn Love – The Lumineers Yep another one. This is another fantastic song by them, and just as good as Ho Hey imo. It just moves me, the lyrics are really poignant.
Bad Girls – M.I.A. My number one. This song blew me away when I heard it. It still gives me the chills when I hear it. I have loved M.I.A. since Galang and this song is just FLAWLESS. Easily my favorite song of this whole year. She killed it with this one. And the video, omg. I can’t, I actually can’t.
Love Spent – Madonna MDNA was floptastic but this song saves it. She should have made it a single, it could have been a hit. The acoustic version is even better, really captures the pain of it all. I love Madonna like no other and am sad this song wasn’t put out or even performed on the tour till later on. It’s amazing.
Mumford & Sons – Babel I’m cheating here but this whole album was amazing. I can’t pick a favorite song, it’s incredible, makes me feel a million emotions and is just… yeah, amazing.
Beez in the Trap – Nicki Minaj hahahah. Yeah I don’t know, I loved it *hides face*
Of Monsters and Men – My Head Is An Animal Again, whole album. I just saw them live recently and they were spectacular. Go buy this album, now! Little Talks, and more! haha Actually, Little Talks and Bad Girls by M.I.A. are tied for me as song of the year. Little Talks actually makes me cry I love it so much. Also, seeing it live was like no other experience ever. The whole crowd just got taken to a different place.
Carried Away – Passion Pit This is my happy song. I dance to it like a dork every time I put it on. LOVE IT.
Pour it Up – Rihanna hot. not sure what else to say.
Jump – Rihanna destined to be a monster hit. She uses the Ginuwine sample SO WELL.
I know I’m missing a lot of big ones but these are just some of my favorites.
And for my favorite videooooo:
Easily, hands down, took my breath away.
Hello all! I am back. I know I took a very long hiatus but life got busy and I… well…. had a bit of writer’s block but I’m back and ready to update. And what better way to begin than with a music post! And what’s even better about it is it’s a concert post! I’ll admit I haven’t been to a concert in a ridiculously long, embarrassing amount of time. The last show I went to was Lady Gaga back in 2011 which was of course, an AMAZING time but that was so long ago. With that said, I am very excited to say that OF MONSTERS AND MEN ARE PLAYING IN THE CITY…. AND I’M GOING! Wahoooooo!
Haha, I just had to get off that my chest. I really got into them earlier this year as soon as I heard the brilliance that is “Little Talks” and ever since then, I’ve been completely hooked. If you haven’t listened to their album, “My Head Is An Animal” I strongly suggest you do. If you like a little mix of folk, bluegrass, and harmonies, you will probably like it. I’ve posted one of my favorite songs below. And if you live in the NYC area and want to go to to what I’m sure will be a truly fantastic show, here is the link! They are playing at Terminal 5 on November 20th. Again, cue the excitement! Is anyone here going to any good shows soon? Oh and I always post reviews when I go to shows, so there is that to look forward to as well ha. Enjoy!
This is definitely in my top 5. I’ll post the other 4 this weekend!
“And though the truth may vary
This ship will carry our bodies safe to the shore.”
I don’t care what people think, I adore Owl City and probably always will. With that said, his new album, The Midsummer Station is out today and here is one song I’m really loving from it. I do think it’s funny that EVERY song has to have a dubstep breakdown in it now though (everyone wants to be a little Skrillex ha). OH but, it’s only an iTunes exclusive track, which it shouldn’t be. It should actually be a single for him, it would do well! Anyway, check out Bombshell Blonde.
I adore Of Monsters and Men and just find Yellow Light to be an incredibly beautiful, simple and ethereal song.
“I’m looking for a place to start
But everything feels so different now.”
